Ocean Associates, Inc. is seeking to hire Jr. Biological Technician IV to provide assistance to a program for tracking and verification of tuna landings information. OAI provides personnel support service on contract to government, academia, private industry and international organizations.

Duties include:
  • Assist in data entry, monitoring, and verification of tuna fisheries import information.
  • Answer/respond to tuna import related calls, email, and voicemails.
  • Assist with tuna import documentation compliance by corresponding with industry via telephone, FAX, and email, as needed.
  • Review, compile and/or file domestic tuna processor monthly reports, as needed.
  • Assist as needed with domestic tuna processor documentation compliance by corresponding with industry via telephone, FAX, and email as needed.
  • Participate or assist in tuna landings tracking and verification audits as needed.
  • Assist as needed with producing and distribution of tuna tracking and verification data.
  • Assist NMFS Sustainable Fisheries staff as requested with tasks related to the sustainability Highly Migratory Fishes.
Location
The work site will be at the NMFS Sustainable Fisheries Division office in Long Beach, CA.

Length of Position and Hours
The contract is for 2,008 work hours during the period July 1, 2014 through June 30, 2015. This is a full-time position with work not to exceed 40 hours per week.

Salary and Benefits

Minimum Skills and Training Required
  • BS degree, or be actively enrolled in a college program, in environmental resource engineering, geosciences, natural resources or other similar program;
  • Be comfortable with spreadsheet and database software and willing to learn new software;
  • And have strong organizational and communication skills.
