Overall Task

The Agriculture expert is responsible to oversee implementation of new training manual, develop learning materials and lessons learned in Agriculture component in SCPP program and its cross cutting issues of environment, gender and social aspect. This position will coordinate within R&D unit especially with social and gender, certification and environment specialist, and program implementation unit to ensure the quality of module delivery in SCPP program. The position will provide technical inputs to ensure effective and efficient delivery of overall program intervention with particular focus on SCPP component in good agriculture practice (GAP). 

Task, Authority, and Responsibility

Technical Advisory
  • Oversee, review and give feedback on SCPP’s training modules and materials and implementation approaches; 
  • Review and develop new approaches and methods for standardized cocoa demonstration plots;
  • Design farmer training which is applicable and measurable to enrich the program implementation;
  • Ensure dissemination of new modules and teaching material to the program implementation team with purpose to ensure consistent approaches are utilized across all SCPP areas;
  • Provide trainings or capacity building activities in order to improve technical capacity of program implementation team in topics related to Good Agriculture Practice (GAP);
  • Facilitate training for master trainers and extension officers in GAP;
  • Advise on best practices and innovative methodology for farmer trainings to improve the program implementation;
Lessons Learned and Best Practices
  • Collect and analyze information related to GAP to ensure program’s awareness of the latest trends in the sector; 
  • Based on research activity, periodically develop learning and lessons learned publications such as article, case studies, manuals, etc.;
  • Identify, assess, prepare and monitor the implementation of related agriculture techniques and policies in the sector;
  • In coordination with PR and Media Manager, develop content for communication materials related GAP such as posters, flipcharts, brochures, flyers, etc.;
  • In coordination with the certification specialist to ensure that the GAP training is linked with the certification process;
  • Contribute to the preparation of presentations, speeches and papers, etc.
Knowledge Sharing
  • Support the program implementation team to ensure program’s intervention in GAP is well planned, monitored and evaluated with purpose to align SCPP practice with the state of the art in the topics; Participate and contribute in workshops and conferences on the cocoa agricultural sector and other activities for advocacy, dissemination and knowledge sharing;
  • Establish and maintain effective coordination with Government of Indonesia (GoI), international institutions, private sectors, and other stakeholders.
Research and Project management
  • Initiation, execution, coordination and supervision of research conducted in SCPP in GAP and related topics, working closely with program implementation team, consultants and R&D team;
  • Analyze program’s farmers’ data and develop reports;
  • Perform other duties assigned by line manager and Program director;
  • Prepare concept documents and review term of references and reports.
Education/Qualifications/Experiences/Skill Knowledge
  • Master degree in agriculture or related subject from an accredited academic institution
  • At least 10 years or more of professional work experience in Agriculture extension services sector
  • Experience in Cocoa sector;
  • Familiar with in Indonesia agriculture sector 
  • Experience in working with international NGO program/project implementation;
  • Experience in working and/or liaising with the communities and various partners, and
institutions
  • Experience in research or manual development (preferably proof of some peer reviewed published work);
  • Experience working with Local Government & Agencies, Ministry of Agriculture
  • Research experience (preferably proof of some peer reviewed published work)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and demonstrated ability to effectively interact and collaborate with people/stakeholders;
  • Good in personal organization, planning and priority setting. Excellent at taking initiatives, focused and result oriented;
  • Strong attention to detail and to maintaining a high quality standard;
  • Demonstrated flexibility and capable of managing a variety of tasks with minimal supervision;
  • Experience in coordinate, designing and facilitating training, meetings and workshops

  • Excellent spoken and written Bahasa Indonesia and English
