Carbon Market Watch Job Vacancy: International Policy Officer - Regional / Global

Purpose of the position
Carbon Market Watch is seeking a dynamic and experienced International Policy Officer to lead a campaign to advocate strong social and environmental integrity of carbon markets at the international level. The campaign will target the development of new policy frameworks under the Paris climate treaty. This is a new position to complement the existing Carbon Market Watch team. The Carbon Market Policy Officer will report to the Director.

Tasks and responsibilities
  • Closely monitor and analyse relevant policy developments;
  • Establish and manage relationships with UNFCCC delegates and key stakeholders;
  • Build coalitions and coordinate joint position papers and campaign strategies;
  • Prepare and disseminate information (reports, briefings, lobby points etc);
  • Organise policy events and webinars;
  • Carry out these tasks in close cooperation with the Carbon Market Watch team and a large network of NGOs;
  • Actively support and contribute to fundraising efforts and reporting requirements.
Previous experience
The successful candidate will combine sound knowledge of carbon market policies at the international level with proven experience in implementing effective advocacy strategies. A minimum of three years of relevant experience and the ability to work independently is essential.

  • Ability to work independently;
  • Sound knowledge of carbon market policies;
  • Ability to identify relevant raising issues, formulate policy options and make recommendations;
  • Proven experience in implementing effective advocacy strategies;
  • Superior oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate and adapt to different audiences (political, technical, media), reach out to stakeholders, and present to and lead groups with confidence;
  • Demonstrated project coordination and management skills and experience in team-work with people from diverse cultures and nationalities;
  • Willingness to travel internationally;
  • Fluent spoken and written English essential. Other languages are considered an advantage.
Availability
We are looking for a candidate available to join our team as soon as possible. The location of the position is flexible, regular trips to Brussels and participation of relevant conferences is required. We will offer an initial contract for one year. Contract extension is dependent on the forthcoming availability of funds.
