SUMMARY
Eurasia Foundation (EF) is seeking an advocacy and digital rights advisor to provide technical expertise for a new Internet freedom initiative in the MENA region.  In collaboration with local stakeholders, the position will lead the development of regional trainings, curriculum,   advocacy tools and resources applicable to the MENA region.  The assignment is for an eighteen-month period, contingent upon funding. The position will report to EF’s Middle East Director based in Washington, DC.

DUTIES
  • Documentation of current trends, threats, and landscape of Internet freedom and digital rights initiatives in the region;
  • Support the design and delivery of digital rights trainings and workshops in coordination with EF’s local partners;
  • Support development of a localized digital rights curriculum including data collection on best practices, policy reforms and key stakeholders as well curriculum design and creation of local content;
  • Ensure coordination with local partners and key IF stakeholders around local advocacy priorities and plans; capacity-building support to local partners;
  • Liaise with international and regional IF stakeholders; represent EF at key Internet Freedom events and conferences;
  • Support program monitoring of key program partners; donor reporting and tracking progress against key project benchmarks.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Demonstrated expertise in advocacy, freedom of expression, Internet governance, and digital rights issues;
  • Strong understanding of digital security concerns for civil society organizations in the MENA region;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the global Internet freedom community, pre-existing relationships with leading stakeholders;
  • Ability to travel within the region, as needed;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills;
  • Fluency in English required, Arabic preferred;
  • MBA or related advanced degree in International Development and/or Communications with demonstrable experience in one or more of the following areas: internet policy advocacy, access to information, telecommunications laws;
  • At least ten years of relevant program management and development experience with significant work experience in MENA.
