The Role
The Child Protection Thematic Advisor is responsible for developing multi-year thematic strategies and annual plans, designing and building programmes and securing the grants, developing strong external relations, and producing and utilising high quality and well-articulated project evidence and research for learning, for advocacy and for the continued development of the Myanmar country office Child Protection portfolio. The Thematic Advisor is also responsible for promoting programme quality in close collaboration with the CP Head of Programme and MEAL team.
Skills and Experience
- A minimum of 8 years management experience in a development environment, including significant field experience with both emergency and development programs
- Experience managing a portfolio of multiple projects, including research.
- Experience in designing and writing proposals for funding and in developing donor relationships
- Strong policy analysis and policy engagement experience. Proven representation, influencing and advocacy skills and experience.
- Strong analytical and writing skills with demonstrated ability to write briefing papers (ability to present complex information in a succinct and compelling manner) and targeted advocacy messages.
- Experience in humanitarian assistance and disaster risk reduction
- Experience working with government partners, with partner agencies, including local partners, and in consortia
- An understanding of child rights programming and commitment to Save the Children values
- Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures
- Strong results orientation, with the ability to challenge existing mindsets
- Excellent Significant people management skills/experience and proven ability to create an environment which encourages team-working and motivates a team across various geographical areas.
- Proven ability to manage a complex and demanding workload
- Proven ability to manage a team, with good communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to motivate staff.
- Post graduate level Child Protection or extensive experience in Child Protection.
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching
- Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal
- Willingness to travel to field offices and work in difficult environment according to travel requirements
- Good computer skills (particularly Excel, Word and database)
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation developing effective working relationships to deliver outstanding results for children
- Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children's aims, values and principles.
- Willingness and capability to comply with all relevant Save the Children policies and procedures with respect to health and safety, security, equal opportunities and other relevant policies, including the Child Safeguarding Policy
