The Program
Australia Awards Papua New Guinea (AAPNG) contributes to building a qualified workforce, filling critical human resource gaps and fostering leadership in the public and private sector of Papua New Guinea (PNG), thereby supporting the country’s economic, social and environmental development.

The Facility’s activities contribute to PNG citizens acquiring professional and technical skills and knowledge relevant to the priorities of the Government of PNG and developing networks in their professional fields and communities in ways that contribute to economic growth, good governance and social objectives including health and education. The program fosters people-to-people links between Australia and PNG and ensures opportunities are provided for women, people with disabilities and people from remote locations.

AAPNG includes three types of study options:
  • Australia Award scholarships for Papua New Guineans to study primarily post graduate courses in Australia;
  • Australia Awards short courses for Papua New Guineans to undertake short term study in Australia, receiving an Australian qualification; and
  • In-Country scholarships for Papua New Guineans to study in PNG to meet critical workforce gaps and to contribute to strengthening local education institutions.
