Interpeace Job Vacancy: Accountant - Geneva, Switzerland

General Position Summary:
Working in the Administration Support Unit (ASU) and under the direction of the Accounting and Reporting Manager, the Accountant will be responsible for:
  • Interpeace Geneva headquarters – (using SunAccounts software)
    • Recording income and expenses
    • Recording advances to UNOPS and partner organizations
    • Reconciliation of balance sheet accounts including payroll
  • Interpeace Inc (US) – income and expenses (using Quickbooks)
  • Interpeace Sweden (Sweden) – liaison with accounting services in Sweden
  • Take responsibility for incorporating gender perspectives and ensuring equal participation of women and men in the different areas of responsibility outlined in these ToRs
Specific Duties and responsibilities:
  • Coordinate all payments through Western Union and process all payments
  • Review expense reports for accuracy and completeness and ensure that expense reports have been fully approved before payment
  • Reconcile staff cash advances and expense reports
  • Prepare monthly journal entries to record all bank transactions (income and expenditure) and file supporting documentation
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts
  • Prepare monthly cost centre financial reports and transaction listings (budget Vs actual reports)
  • Maintain accounting for Interpeace Inc (US), including payroll and recording of donor contributions
  • Coordination focal point for Interpeace Sweden payments and accounting
  • Coordinate with Cantonal and Federal administration (registration, declaration, exemption)
  • Maintain donors online registration (SAM, USAID, EC Transparency register)
  • Other duties as assigned or requested
Requirements:
  • This position requires coursework in accounting, finance or a related field and experience sufficient to successfully perform the duties of the job listed above. A degree in accounting would be an asset.
  • One or more years of accounting, experience working, preferably with Not for Profits
  • Knowledge of fund accounting practices and principles desired
  • Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds, in person and over the telephone
  • IFRS knowledge and experience
  • Demonstrated proficiency with MS Word and Excel and experience in the use of accounting software
  • Excellent communication and written skills in English and French is required
  • Swiss or EU citizenship or Swiss work permit
