RECOFTC – The Center for People and Forests holds a unique and important place in the world of forestry. It is the only international not?for?profit organization that specializes in capacity development for community forestry and devolved forest management. With over 30 years of international experience and a dynamic approach to capacity development—involving research, analysis and synthesis; strategic communication; training and learning networks; and piloting and demonstrating—RECOFTC delivers innovative solutions for people and forests.

RECOFTC is currently seeking a Business Development Officer. The successful applicant will be based in Executive Office at RECOFTC’s Headquarters in Bangkok, Thailand. The contract period will be for 24 months with a possibility of extension.

Position Summary:
The Business Development Officer works as a team member of Executive Office. The position’s long-term objective is to take the lead in building a sustainable corpus of RECOFTC funds, while short-term objective is to enhance partnership efforts.  
The Business Development Officer is responsible for the successful development and implementation of RECOFTC business models and fundraising program which aims to grow RECOFTC funds and supporters. S/he reports directly to the Executive Director and work closely with the Unit Managers and relevant RECOFTC staff from other units.

Responsibilities and Duties:
Under the direction of the Executive Director, the main tasks and responsibilities of the Business Development Officer will be as follows:  
  • Develop business plan in consultation with other staff for long-term sustainability of the organization;
  • Plan and coordinate all fundraising activities and events;
  • Supported by the Business Intelligence Officer, enhance fundraising and partnership data and interpret for adaptive strategies for better business development  practices;
  • Maintain and enhance RECOFTC’s fundraising guidelines/organization criteria, especially Rapid Opportunity Summary and Assessment (ROSA) of proposal calls and proposal e-briefing processes;
  • Lead the delivery of a number of new initiatives, guided by RECOFTC’s Fundraising Strategy;
  • Identify donor opportunities and diversify fundraising sources;
  • Develop new tools identifying dynamic ways to engage and motivate donors and potential funders;
  • Work with Communication team to communicate RECOFTC’s fundraising activities and act as a spokesperson for RECOFTC  events;
  • Promote organization wide culture of fundraising and business awareness;
  • Assist in proposal writing in partnership with content experts;
  • Responsible for donor relationship management i.e organize meeting, prepare presentations and reports for Donors or potential Donors and Partners.
  • Support Country Program Offices’ fundraising strategy and donor stewardship.
  • Support development/ capacity building of Country Program Offices’ business development and business intelligence processes;
  • Support Executive Office with duties and activities related to fundraising and donor stewardship/cultivation; and,
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Executive Director. 
Qualifications and Experience:
The Business Development Officer will have the following essential qualifications and experience:

Essential: 
  • A Master degree in marketing or any relevant field from a recognized institution
  • Over 10 years work experience,  in marketing and fundraising, preferable with an INGO
  • Experience in budgeting, including costing, planning, monitoring and reporting
  • Experience in digital marketing and social media
  • Experience of managing external agencies/suppliers
  • Proven track record in English-language proposal writing
  • Ability to work and communicate with a wide range of people – the public, government, corporate, community, donor staff and others
  • Knowledge of the local  political and socio-economic development context and funding environment
  • Must be flexible, able to multitasking and  meet given deadlines 
Desirable: 
  • Experience working in cross-cultural environments
  • Work experience in South or Southeast Asia
  • Knowledge of an Asian language
  • Knowledge of forestry or natural resources management
