Reporting toCountry Manager for China. The position also coordinates closely with the regional head of cotton and textiles based out of New Delhi, India.

Job Description

WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING?
Solidaridad Asia is seeking an experienced, senior development professional as Senior Manager Cotton and textile for China Country Office in Shanghai.

As a Senior Manager Cotton and textile, you will be leading the Cotton and textile programme team in China to develop and execute Solidaridad Network Asia’s Cotton and Textiles sustainability programme in China. Your role is to support developing the Strategy and the Road Map for Sustainable cotton and textile programme in close coordination with the regional head of Asia and the Country Manager. You will lead and develop projects for cotton from more sustainable sources for the brands.

Together with your team, you will manage a complex map of internal and external stakeholders to support the agenda implementation. From building development & compliance related competences in country team, to leading and supporting specific projects with external stakeholders, to representing Solidaridad in different forums.

As Senior Manager, your will lead and develop your team. You are expected to build the required capabilities for your people, coach and support them grow as professionals. You will support and join the Country Manager for recruitment, development and succession planning within your team.

ABOUT THE ASSIGNMENT:
  • Support strategy development on Cotton and Textile in China aligned with the regional strategy of Solidaridad Asia.
  • Support development of field programmes on cotton and textiles. It would include supporting farmers to produce more with less negative social consequences and damage to the ecosystem. It also includes developing, testing and promoting good and climate-smart agricultural and industrial practices.
  • Support cotton and textile businesses operating in China to implement its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategies within and outside China
  • Prepare China focussed cotton and textile project proposals for funding from international donors and private sector in professional English in close collaboration with the Country and Regional team.
  • Prepare project reports, annual reports and financial reports pertaining to cotton and textiles in professional English. 
  • Create priority map, develop and implement plans with internal and external teams
  • Manage internal and external stakeholders to develop and implement Strategy
  • Lead a team of Cotton &Textile responsible for the implementation
  • Coordinate and liaison with brands/associations and their Business Teams China
  • Participate actively in the regional cotton and textile management team.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Proven record of consistent excellent results in leading and developing both business and people (direct or indirect).
  • Relevant Master’s degree (e.g. in economics, MBA, development studies, or agriculture)
  • Resident of Shanghai (or willing to relocate in Shanghai) with permit to work in China
  • At least 6 years’ experience in managing cotton programme in China with deep understanding of sustainability issues covering cotton production as well as cotton & yarn market – domestic and international.
  • Experience of handling project implementation, project reporting and project finance as per global requirements in English.
  • An excellent understanding of the policy environment, issues and stakeholders in the cotton and textiles sector of China
  • Strong drive for business and delivering results, alongside with a strong orientation for sustainability.
  • Capacity to finding new opportunities, innovations and make it happen through engaging and motivating people around you.

  • Strongly business minded.

CONTRACT & BENEFITS
The position is offered under Solidaridad Asia’s terms and conditions with an initial 3 years contract.
