Job Description:
Temporary Opportunity (4 months) - with possibility of renewal.
 The External Relations Officer collects intelligence on political trends, produces information products for World Vision Canada users, organizes public events, and supports preparations for the engagement of external stakeholders such as high-level civil servants and politicians.

Key Job Functions
  • Monitor current affairs; policy and programming related legislation/regulatory changes; government role changes; opportunities for policy influence.
  • Monitor Question Period, parliamentary website (order paper and order paper questions, political twitter & blogs, etc.).
  • Translate collected intelligence into relevant material (ie. stakeholder maps, political intelligence documents, merger analysis etc.).
  • Manage special projects (initiatives that enhance government relations knowledge within WVC staff).
  • Coordinate the scheduling of meetings, preparation of briefing notes and meeting summary documents for senior leadership – particularly within the top tier of government stakeholders.
  • Receive and disseminate completed meeting summary documents to WVC staff as appropriate.
Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree or postgraduate certificate in international development; public relations; non-profit leadership or related field
  • 1-2 years experience in Canadian political context or civil service
  • Applied training in communications or public affairs
  • Demonstrated ability to read and analyze political dynamics
  • 1-2 years experience with non-profits
  • Demonstrated ability to work on a team
  • Demonstrated project management skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills
  • Fluent in English, French is an asset
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills, use of other computer applications an asset
