Danish Refugee Council Job Vacancy: Protection Information Management Training Officer - Copenhagen, Denmark

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a private, independent, humanitarian organization working on all aspects of the refugee cause in more than forty countries throughout the world. The aim of DRC is to protect refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) against persecution and to promote durable solutions to the problems of forced displacement on the basis of humanitarian principles and human rights.

Since 2015, DRC, in collaboration with UNCHR, have worked together to develop a common understanding of protection information management (PIM). A key component of this initiative is the development of core competencies - skills, knowledge, and attitudes among protection and IM colleagues to support evidence- informed and targeted use of protection resources, a more coordinated response, and life-saving protection interventions. To this end, the capacity building and learning events are aimed at building PIM knowledge, skills and attitudes to support evidence informed analysis, strategy, and response in both IDP and refugee contexts.

Building upon the development of PIM training material and delivery of learning events in 2016, DRC will deliver 6 capacity building and learning events over the course of the next 12 months. The overall objective of the PIM capacity building and learning project is to improve the ability of humanitarian actors to develop a more informed protection response anchored in an overall protection analysis. This will be accomplished by conducting PIM capacity building and learning events with the following learning objectives:

  • Demonstrating how PIM supports, informs and enables the development of an evidence informed protection analysis, strategy, and response.
  • Development of PIM knowledge, skills and attitudes that facilitate dialogue and collaboration.
  • Development of PIM knowledge and skills that demonstrates the linkages between PIM and a protection analysis, strategy, and response.
About the job
The PIM Training Officer will be responsible for implementing all aspects of DRC’s PIM capacity building and learning project, including programmatic, financial and administration responsibilities. One Project Support Officer will be hired and will report to the PIM Training Officer. The PIM Training Officer reports to the DRC Global Protection Advisor.

Duties and Responsibilities for 2017
The Protection Information Management (PIM) Training Officer will be responsible for the following:
  • Coordinate the organisation, logistics, delivery, and monitoring & evaluation of 6 PIM learning events – based on an updated PIM Training Package.
  • Incorporate baseline and post training evaluation methods, compliant with donor obligations.
  • Update PIM training materials to reflect recent PIM developments.
  • Develop tailored PIM training sessions to be incorporated into other training initiatives.
  • Hire and manage consultant to translate training material.
  • Lead the development of PIM E-learning modules.
  • Budget management and ensure that activities are implemented in line with proposed budget.
  • Consult and coordinate with key PIM stakeholders – including the GPC to ensure an open and transparent process in the delivery of PIM learning events.
  • Project and donor reporting.
  • Participate and contribute to the overall PIM Initiative, including regular PIM meetings and planning sessions.
Outputs: At the end of the assignment, the following outputs will be achieved:

  • Facilitation and delivery of six PIM learning events.
  • Updated PIM Training Package.
  • Tailored PIM training materials / sessions incorporated into other training initiatives.
  • French translation of PIM training package.
  • E-learning sessions developed and accessible to humanitarian community.
About you
Qualifications
  • Work: A minimum of five year's progressively responsible experience in an international setting. Prior experience working with in the field of protection information management. Experience working in diverse settings / contexts and at both the field and global level.
  • Education: Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent). A relevant combination of academic qualifications and extensive experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.
  • Language: For this position, fluent oral and written English is essential.
Key skills
  • Proven experience developing capacity building & learning materials.
  • Proven experience in convening training events.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of protection information management systems.
  • Knowledge of key protection norms, standards and understanding of a holistic approach to protection, and the ability to incorporate these into operational and technical solutions.
  • Understands existing and new technological solutions for information management in humanitarian contexts.
  • Excellent communication - written and oral presentation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective partnerships and working relations in a multicultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect or diversity.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and coordinate diverse issues simultaneously and to develop clear goals, establish priorities and allocate time and resources appropriately.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and willing to keep abreast of new develops in the field of protection information management specifically and humanitarian response more generally.
  • DRC will offer the successful applicant a contract for 12 months, renewable dependent on funding and performance. You must be available to start work at the beginning of 17th July 2017. Duty station is DRC Headquarters in Copenhagen, Denmark.
