Internews seeks a Project Director for a media support project focused on strengthening the capacity of youth in advocacy for freedom of expression. This project will include trainings, gaming workshops and round table discussions for youth beneficiaries.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, other duties may be assigned:

  • Oversee the management and successful implementation of the project, including tracking of budgets, subgrants/contract, and monitoring and evaluation requirements in coordination with Internews HQ;
  • Oversee sub-grants to partner organizations, including budgets, timeline and reporting, and to participate and assist in the completion of such task as requires;
  • Ensure financial compliance oversight with Bangkok-based Finance Manager and timely spending of program budgets with the Business Manager
  • Ensure top-level M&E and cutting-edge reporting are developed and maintained in coordination with regional and HQ M&E staff;
  • Prepare proposals/reports/budgets (write, edit, proof, revise);
  • Cultivates and strengthens relationships with local partner organizations and ensures that implementation is responsive to the needs of partners and beneficiaries;
  • Builds proactive relationships with potential donors in country in order to solicit new fundraising opportunities;
  • Carry out research as assigned and in support of ongoing projects and new initiatives;
  • Represents Internews in Malaysia with donors and at various conferences/events when required;
  • Maintains strategic awareness of independent media issues in Malaysia and the broader region and a general understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing independent media;

  • Minimum five years’ experience in program management
  • English and Malay fluency required
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Self-starter: proven ability to independently manage programs
  • Experience with media, youth advocacy a plus
  • Experience leveraging other sources of funding to advance programmatic objectives
  • Experience in designing and leading projects, including budget management, reporting and M&E
  • Proven ability to develop and monitor work plans and training plans
  • Knowledge of, and proven experience in, budget management, projections and grant management
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Experience managing databases
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple on-going assignments
  • Relevant university degree required
