Freedom House Job Vacancy: Fundraising Associate - Washington DC

Position Summary
The Fundraising Associate will assist the Development Office to implement strategies for securing and sustaining financial support from a portfolio of foundation grants, and individual and corporate donors on behalf of Freedom House. The Fundraising Associate will manage the day-to-day responsibilities of fundraising. This position is based in Washington, DC and reports to the Development Manager.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or related field
  • Strong interest in fundraising and marketing strategies
  • Strong ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, and persuasive written and oral communication skills
  • Background or demonstrated interest in human rights, democracy, and/or international affairs preferred
  • Background or demonstrated interest in foundation grant-making preferred
  • Ability to maintain the highest degree of confidentiality regarding all aspects of work at all times
  • Proficiency with MS Office; and ability to learn a donor database such as “Salsa”
  • Outstanding organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail
  • Ability to maintain composure, flexibility, and a sense of humor under tight deadlines
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Coordinate marketing, fundraising, and communications projects under the direction of the Development Manager
  • Coordinate the development, design, production, and distribution of high-quality marketing materials for donors and prospects
  • Support fundraising efforts by Freedom House President and Executive Vice President
  • Participate in team meetings to identify needs; work with development team to implement creative marketing and fundraising solutions
  • Help plan and coordinate special projects and donor events (such as recognition gatherings, trips, luncheons, special dinners, conferences, and one-on-one donor meetings)
  • Research and identify new prospects, maintain relations with current funders, and create and maintain prospect files
  • Manage administrative tracking of proposals, renewals, individual donors and development programs
  • Manage donor acknowledgment process, create queries and reports, and maintain donor records
  • Assist in sending communication and tracking a caseload of active donor activities
  • Other duties as assigned.
