Marie Stopes International Job Vacancy: Regional Finance Officer - Melbourne, Australia

We are currently seeking a Regional Finance Officer to join our head office in Melbourne. Reporting to the Regional Director, the successful candidate will be a key member of the Regional Team.

This role exists for the purpose of building the finance capacity of Marie Stopes International Country Programs, which will enable support in the delivery of their work. This includes assisting with the timely management of reporting and analysis of relevant financial information, and ensuring appropriate financial processes, systems, resources and reporting are appropriately in place.

Key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Reviewing performances of country programs, financial and statistical, as well as assisting in improving the efficiency of program business models
  • Reviewing budgeting and forecasting, cash requests and assisting in helping those involved in programs understand their future cash requirements
  • Making sure all data entry and validation procedures comply with the group accounting manual
  • Ensuring new finance staff receive an appropriate induction and training requirements are met
  • Reviewing project budget proposals and ensuring projects are correctly set-up, reported-on and closed down
  • Ensuring all local statutory and tax reporting requirements are met
  • General support to country programs, including occasionally providing short-term cover to help fill vacant roles in the finance teams involved
Experience/ Attributes required:

  • A proactive approach to solving problems
  • A willingness to travel extensively (at times to fragile and conflict settings, at short notice)
  • The ability to communicate with colleagues of a finance and non-finance background and a high standard of written English
  • The ability to prioritise to meet deadlines
  • Accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or other relevant qualification) (essential)
  • Relevant University degree (essential)
  • Financial and management reporting experience
  • Experience in use of Microsoft Office Packages
Previous experience in finance systems, most notably SUNsystems, InforQ&A and InforBI, is highly desirable; as is experience working with multi currency reporting and accounting. A background in group reporting in an international donor funded organisation will also be well regarded.
