WWF International Job Vacancy: Officer, Global Policy - Singapore

The Officer, Global Policy conducts research and analyses that underpin the arguments behind WWF’s policy and advocacy positions in the language of decision-makers by developing political briefs, substantive briefs and talking points for WWF on geopolitical, social and economic trends and policy options and their relevance for WWF mission and objectives.

Main responsibilities:

  • Deliver policy recommendations for relevant external use, including on-the-spot reactive positioning as well as proactive positions for relevant international dialogues;
  • Conduct relevant political and policy research to underpin arguments behind WWF’s policy and advocacy positions
  • Draft convincing substantive briefs to support WWF policy positions;
  • Deliver cross cutting policy expertise and knowledge on complex, multi-disciplinary issues to support policy and advocacy work for WWF’s priorities
  • Support WWF delegations in multi-lateral fora and policy dialogues with relevant material and briefings, and represents as required
  • Engage as relevant in international policy dialogues to build research credibility, roadtest positions and policies, and ensure the political credibility of WWF’s overall and cross-cutting positions as well as protocol and approach
  • Help build WWF capacity in cross-cutting policy areas, political research and advocacy, notably through on-site training as well as issue- or fora-specific activities
  • Lead global radar work on priority international dialogue and advocacy areas to help identify momentum, anticipate future directions, sticking points and opportunities and anticipate key policy engagement opportunities for WWF to engage
  • Maintain a knowledge platform and systems (database, website, email list) on publications of interest, arguments, positions, political commitments, country and regional information, biographies, etc
  • Other major duties as requested by Head, Policy Research and Development
Required Qualifications, Skills and Competencies 
  • Masters degree in international affairs, economics, development, social, foreign, economic, governance or legal studies;
  • Proven professional experience in the field of policy and/or advocacy, preferentially in conservation or sustainable development;
  • Deep understanding of current political affairs, trends and developments and of the relationship between environmental conservation and the external political agenda;
  • Strategic thinking, analyses complex information and provides coherent, compelling briefs and talking points, excellent writing skills
  • Up to date on latest geopolitical trends
  • Able to translate policy asks into a range of compelling narratives which are appropriate for differing political, academic, research and institutional audiences
  • Ability to convene experts from a devolved network in policy dialogues
  • Ability and enthusiasm in providing fast and accurate information and in implementing short term but demanding tasks;
  • Ability to digest information from a variety of electronic and written sources and produce clear analysis
  • Capacity to work rapidly and accurately under pressure and to quickly define and adhere to priorities.
  • Discretion, reliability, flexibility, accuracy;
  • Ability to work in multicultural environment;
  • Capacity to work independently in an intense team environment and have good people skills;
  • Excellent organisational and people skills;
  • Fluent in English, other languages an advantage;
  • Highly computer literate, competent in use of spreadsheets and other electronic tools;

Salary: 54,000 – 62,000 SG
