CUSTOMARY PRACTICES SPECIALIST
Kupang Based
The Customary Practices Specialist is responsible to identify and record customary practices in managing natural resources within Savu Sea, East Nusa Tenggara, Lesser Sunda. S/he develops methodology to properly identify and record the traditional practices developed within specific ethnic cultures, especially those aspects of culture that have been practiced since ancient times in the context of natural resources management.
Duties include:
  • Undertake comprehensive research on the traditional practices developed within specific ethnic cultures, especially those aspects of culture that have been practiced since ancient times in the context of natural resources management.
  • Provide recommendation to The Nature Conservancy Indonesia Program, in developing proper methodology to be able to identify and record the customary practices in Savu Sea, Lesser Sunda.
  • Identify and make the case for the best opportunities for TNC engagement based on analyses of the market, biological impacts, partnerships, etc. 

The Customary Practices Specialist reports to the Lesser Sunda Portfolio Manager and is based in Kupang.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree, Master’s preferred with at least 5 years’ experience in carrying out comprehensive analysis to assess on the traditional practices developed within specific ethnic cultures, especially those aspects of culture that have been practiced since ancient times in the context of natural resources management.
  • Demonstrate experience in developing the methodology to properly assess the traditional practices in natural resources management
  • Demonstrate experience in producing high standard of report or any scientific publication in researching traditional practices in natural resources management, both in Bahasa Indonesia and English.
  • Communicating clearly via written, spoken, and graphical means in Bahasa Indonesia and English.
  • Experience developing partnerships (partners, community, government).
