Financial Accountant
We are looking for an exceptional individual to join our dynamic organisation at an exciting time of growth. You will need to demonstrate that you have the skills, knowledge, ability and experience to deliver on the below. The role of the UK Office is to:
  • Manage and develop UP’s supporter base in the UK and undertake fundraising, development education and advocacy initiatives.
  • Manage the country offices, providing technical, operational, financial and logistical support;
  • Represent CU to international funding and operational partners.
  • Manage overall strategy and contribute towards the development of in-country and regional strategy programme development.
  • Communicate with the UP Trustees, UP staff and other stakeholders on governance and key management issues.
Job Purpose
  1. To provide effective and reliable support to the finance team in the maintenance of current year records and preparation of year-end accounts.
  2. To work closely with the Global Director of Finance and Services in the development of new accounting system and the roll-out to country offices.
Location: Cardiff

Responsible to: Global Director of Finance & Services

Contract type: permanent, full time

Salary: £30,000-35,000

Responsibilities

Specific Responsibilities
  • Manage the financial accounting operations, including the posting of accounting transactions, the production of financial accounting month-end and provision of financial information to country offices.
  • Supervise the day to day transactions including posting of monthly accounts, monthly reconciliation of bank accounts and inter-office balances and resolution of differences
  • To export and circulate Project Ledgers to Country programme offices by agreed deadline
  • To lead on the production of Annual Accounts and provision of FRS102 disclosures and Financial Reports
  • Assisting with development, improvement and roll-out of new financial systems and processes
  • Preparation of balance sheet reconciliations and management of controlled accounts
  • Support Country office in developing and improving financial management systems in each country
  • Managing bank accounts and completion of monthly bank reconciliation of all bank accounts
  • Managing and supervising accounts payable and receivable functions
  • Liaising with auditors as required.
  • Accounting system development 
  • Monthly/quarterly balance sheet analysis (are debits recoverable etc)
  • Quarterly consolidation
  • Liaison with local finance managers
Person Specification

Person Profile
  • Qualified Accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) who has experience of Financial
  • Minimum 4 years practical experience
Skills and Experience – Essential
  • Experience of working with financial systems
  • Excellent communication skills – meticulous and methodical approach
  • Strong writing skills
  • Highly IT literate including strong MS Excel knowledge
  • Working knowledge of Charity SORP
  • Accounts and balance sheet reconciliation preparation
  • Ability to identify and implement control/process improvements
  • Team player / positive and proactive outlook
Skills and Experience – desirable
  • Experience of working within a cross-cultural setting preferred
  • French and / or Portuguese language skills an advantage
  • Willingness to travel to country programmes
  • Knowledge / experience of Gift Aid, Data Protection and Office for National Statistics.
