Education Specialist: Gender
Location: Metro Vancouver, BC, Canada
Commonwealth of Learning (COL) helps governments and institutions to expand the scale, efficiency and quality of learning by using new approaches, appropriate technologies, and open and distance learning (ODL) methodologies. Headquartered in British Columbia, Canada, COL promotes innovation and works with member states to facilitate learning for sustainable development. It is financed by voluntary contributions from Commonwealth governments.
The Position: COL is seeking an eminent and senior professional for the position of Education Specialist: Gender to lead, develop and manage the gender programme initiative. The Specialist will be a thought-leader who will develop innovative models for mainstreaming gender and advancing equality for women/men and girls/boys. S/he will work in partnership with diverse stakeholders in Member States and work with regional and international organisations to advance COL’s outcomes and impact. Extensive hands-on experience in the use of ODL and in implementing strategic plans is required.
The applicant must be committed to development and be able to respond creatively to the challenges related to mainstreaming gender. A minimum of ten years of relevant professional experience of working in open, distance and technology-mediated learning is required. The position requires proficiency with information and web-based technologies and a readiness to travel internationally.
This 3-year initial appointment is renewable for a further term(s) by mutual agreement.
The person must: be a Commonwealth citizen, with ability to network across multilateral organisations and to work effectively with people from different cultural backgrounds; have the ability to exercise professional judgment, diplomacy and be able to work in a team, while representing COL’s interest internally and externally.
