Communications Officer - World Vision, Costa Rica

This is an HCI Local Role that will be based in the country of the successful candidate within the region (Latin America and the Caribbean). Only candidates from Latin America and the Caribbean will be considered!

PURPOSE OF POSITION:
To support the Regional Communications Director in the operationalisation of Regional and National Office (NO) communications strategies, encompassing these six “focus areas”:

Internal communications Support the Regional Communications Director (RCD) in the development and implementation of regional communications strategies and workplans, while assessing and building the communications strategies, plans, teams and performance of National Offices (NOs) – in the above six focus areas. To communicate strategic organizational initiatives, objectives and other mission-critical information to key regional and national stakeholders, through the development and use of various internal communications channels including video, the web and the WVI intranet portal (wvcentral). During large-scale humanitarian emergencies, support the RCD in meeting the communications demands of the RO and World Vision Partnership stakeholders and emergency response teams. Support may require travel to the field. Provide assistance and support to NO to cover media and create high quality material for fundraising during emergencies. Support the RCD with daily communications to/from key Partnership communications stakeholders (regional and national), for the effective coordination and delivery of communications content and services to/from NOs and to/from the WV Partnership Support Communications Regional Director with the formulation and transmission of timely communications about WV Ministry through formal and informal channels in order to contribute to promote coordinated work and strengthen the image of the organization. Support NO communications teams in the effective servicing of key WV Support Offices (SOs) resource needs for fundraising, marketing, media engagement, emergency responses and public advocacy campaigns. Ensure that the resources sent by NO s are high quality products, good edited and timely delivered to contribute to create a positive image of WV Ministry in the field for donors and sponsors. Support the building of community-based communications capacity and social media presence by local communicators and program staff, with the active participation of communities where World Vision is present and working Assist and advise NO communications teams on key projects such as media and public advocacy campaigns, website development, videos, publications and multimedia projects. Review and approve specific and potentially sensitive NO communications messaging and products if/when needed, prior to wider internal or external dissemination. Oversee the scheduled delivery of quality content from NO communications teams for the LACRO Website and replication thereof for other Partnership websites.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, social communications or public relations. Excellent writing and editing skills in English and Spanish A full commitment to World Vision's core values and humanitarian mandate Self initiative and discipline. Strong organisational and time-management skills Sensitivity to cultural, religious and gender issues Advanced understanding of the internet and latest communication trends/technologies Good understanding of geopolitical, economic and social issues in the LAC region (or the ability to acquire this understanding) Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communications skills Ability to work independently and as a virtual team member Extensive background in communications, journalism and web-based information management Experience in coordinating and producing written content for donor/sponsor engagement, public advocacy and media relations purposes. Experience with professional photography and video editing. Strong interpersonal skills in multicultural contexts.
