Casework Manager - International Rescue Committee, Kuala Lumpur

The IRC has a rich history of assisting refugees to apply for U.S. resettlement, from its founding in 1933 to help vulnerable individuals escape Nazi-occupied Europe, to pioneering the Joint Voluntary Agency which assisted Indochinese refugees for 22 years, to operations in Croatia, Sierra Leone and Sudan. Over the years, IRC has processed some half million refugees worldwide for U.S. resettlement.

Based in Bangkok with four field offices in Thailand and Malaysia, the IRC Resettlement Support Center (IRC-RSC) assists persons throughout East Asia seeking permanent resettlement in the United States. Operating in fifteen countries, the RSC prepares refugee applications for the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program, provides information to resettlement agencies about arriving refugees and offers cultural orientation training to those refugees bound for the U.S.

Scope: The Casework Manager ensures a high level of both general processing and casework services on behalf of refugee applicants to the USRAP through leadership, supervision, casework management and quality control. Casework Managers are responsible for daily management of workload assigned. The Casework Manager performs other office functions outside of the general responsibilities as assigned by immediate supervisor. Casework Manager supervises Caseworkers and Field Team Assistants. The position reports to Field Team Leader.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assist Senior Field Team Leader (SFTL) in leading and managing various aspects of case processing operations • Implement strategies to ensure efficient and timely delivery of casework services to refugees • Train, monitor, shadow and provide feedback to RSC Caseworkers (CWs) and Field Team Assistants (FTAs) • Provide daily management of assigned staff and tasks • Assist with organizing and managing casework teams during prescreening and USCIS circuit rides • Maintain high quality control levels of case files for USCIS presentation • Perform advanced casework on complex cases • Analyze and direct the administrative casework needs of specialized caseloads • Conduct prescreening interviews in a manner demonstrating a senior level of understanding of case and circumstance complexities and details • Analyze processing systems to reach pre-screening targets and follow up tasks • Assist with evaluation and management of the administrative casework needs • Coordinate with the supervisor on urgent protection or medical cases requiring expedited processing • Interface with partner agencies and refugee representatives in a professional manner • Ensure workload completion in time requested and keep supervisors advised of workload challenges • Provide statistics on accomplished work • Perform assigned administrative office tasks • Other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:
• University Degree • Willingness to implement policies and procedures with a professional and constructive attitude • Must be both team and detail oriented, flexible and able to work in a fast-paced, multi-cultural environment. • Program management and staff supervisory experience preferred • Previous experience working in the US Resettlement and/or RSC preferred • Minimum one year experience working in cross-cultural setting. • Proficient in PC use, Microsoft Office, email and Internet • Willingness and ability to travel and work in remote locations • Excellent verbal and written English language skills; knowledge of Burmese dialects desirable
