Programme Manager – Tropical Health and Education Trust, Lusaka

Context THET is an international development organisation working to improve the health of people in Africa and Asia. Focusing on strengthening healthcare services, we harness the skills of UK health professionals to improve the skills of health workers in some of the poorest countries in the world.

Main Purpose • To further develop and support the implementation of a high quality programme of work designed to help strengthen health care systems in Zambia.

Reporting to: Country Representative – Zambia

Direct reports: Logistics Assistant

Key responsibilities:
  1. Programme delivery • Day-to-day oversight of all programme activities • Work with other team members to design and deliver monitoring and evaluation activities, seeking to demonstrate results and impact wherever possible
  2. Operations
• Logistics: ensuring that travel arrangements are in place and clearly communicated to volunteers • HR: ensuring that relevant documents are on file with THET and shared with partners as appropriate • Security: ensuring that volunteers are briefed on THET’s safety and security policies and procedures on arrival in-country • Trouble shooting: providing support and supervision to short- and long-term volunteers as appropriate
  1. Reporting • Provide timely input for high quality narrative and financial reports for donors
  2. Partner relations • Develop and maintain positive relationships, in particular with UNZA, MoH and DFID.
  3. Administration • Maintain effective administrative systems and ensure that programme information is easily accessible to all THET colleagues
  4. Communications • Represent THET at external meetings with donors, NGOs and partners as appropriate, in Zambia and the UK • Contribute to raising awareness of the programme and disseminating good practice by identifying and developing communications material for internal and external use such as case studies and articles
  5. Strategy and programme development • Work with the Country Representative to prepare high quality funding proposals to secure resources for the programme • Contribute to the development of strategic plans, policies and position papers
  6. General support • Deputise for the Country Representative as necessary and relevant • Undertake any other duties requested by the Country Representative commensurate with experience
