Aflatoun is looking for an inspiring Executive Director

Aflatoun is a global non-governmental network organization facilitating social and financial education working with 153 local partners in 102 countries. Aflatoun is currently implementing its 2011-2015 strategy to further increase its outreach to 10 million children in 120 countries. It currently reaches approximately 2,3 mln children in 102 countries. Aflatoun is a very high impact organisation. It is now ranked 36 in the top 100 most influential NGOs and ranked 2nd in the sector children and youth.

The Executive Director is directly responsible for the Aflatoun secretariat based in Amsterdam. The secretariat consists of 23 employees (~17 FTE) an has an annnual budget of approximately 2 million Euro. The secretariat’s principle objectives include curriculum development, supporting programme roll-out, international advocacy, building a global movement of Aflatoun implementation partners and ensuring funding of the secretariat while supporting fundraising efforts by its partners.

Aflatoun is looking for
  • A strategist and entrepreneurial leader with a clear vision on the future of social & financial education for children and youth worldwide;
  • A staunch supporter and advocate of Aflatoun who tirelessly liaises with governments and NGOs at the local and global level to succesfully execute the strategic plan;
  • An enthusiastic and committed leader of professional staff who sets clear goals, inspires and provides coaching to the staff.
Job requirements:
  • At least 15 years professional experience in similar positions;
  • A solid management track record, preferably in an international, multi-cultural setting;
  • Academic qualifications up to a master`s degree, preferably in a relevant field;
  • Entrepreneurial character and results-oriented;
  • Demonstrable experience with organisational strategy setting and roll-out;
  • Knowledge of Online learning methods is a plus;
  • Ideally, a personal network of potential partners, stakeholders and funders;
  • Advocacy experience with governments, corporates, banks and other stakeholders;
  • Able to take tough decisions, committed to those and act accordingly; 
  • Willingness to live in the Netherlands/Amsterdam area and to travel extensively (6-10 weeks per year);
Aflatoun offers:
A crucial role in an international non-profit setting with the greatest diversity of stakeholders, and a professional and truly committed secretariat team. The annual gross compensation is expected to be between 60k-80k Euro including all benefits.
