POSITION OVERVIEW

Reports to: Chief Development Officer

Women’s World Banking is seeking an energetic, hands-on fundraiser with a proven track record of raising money to serve as either the Manager or Director of Bilateral and Multilateral Partnerships. Title will be determined by years of experience, record of success, and demonstrated capacity. The Development team is currently comprised of seven individuals among three areas of giving expertise: Bilaterals and Multilaterals; Corporations and Foundations; and Individuals. Each member of the team is intimately involved in and responsible for the entire fundraising process from strategy development to donor cultivation to proposal writing, reporting and stewardship.

Position Summary and Responsibilities

As a key member of the Development team, the Manager/Director will be responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of bilateral and multilateral donors. This leader will have the opportunity to hire and supervise a staff person, while managing a portfolio of $7M+ in restricted and unrestricted funding annually. The Manager/Director will be accountable for maintaining relationships and moves management plans for bilateral and multilateral representatives. Working closely with the Chief Development Officer, members of the Development Committee of the Board, and senior staff, the Manager/Director will:

Within the first 4 weeks:
  • Embrace Women’s World Banking’s unique characteristics and offerings in order to market them to potential donors and sponsors; 
  • Learn and comprehend the Women’s World Banking business model and its financial needs;
  • Assume full ownership of the 2014 – 2016 fundraising targets and metrics for measuring achievement;
  • Become trained in and fully integrate the use of SalesForce into your day-to-day activities.
Within the first 6 weeks:
  • Fully transition, establish, and strengthen existing relationships with current Bilateral and Multilateral partners, and the broader community of governmental funding organizations; 
  • Identify 4 new prospects to the existing pipeline;
  • Develop moves management metrics to measure annual success, including pipeline conversion into meetings, new relationships and financial commitments.
Within the first year:
  • Establish with donors your personal reputation and Women’s World Banking’s position as a go-to global thought leader on women’s economic empowerment; 
  • Identify and develop opportunities for strategic alliances, particularly with Bilaterals and Multilaterals, which leverage the strengths of all participants and allow Women’s World Banking to simultaneously advance its mission and expand its funding base;
  • Identify and arrange opportunities to leverage the CEO in cultivating and nurturing relationships with donors, while making or guiding new asks;
  • Identify 8 additional new prospects to add to the existing pipeline;
  • Assess overall performance, including the agreed upon moves management metrics.
Ongoing responsibilities:
  • Produce quality letters of interest, concept notes, and grant proposals including managing the internal review of these documents, and prepare final documents for submission; 
  • Stay current with government funding priorities, budgets, and trends in economic development, financial inclusion, and women’s empowerment;
  • Manage existing grants calendar: track grant reporting requirements; develop internal report systems; monitor and manage grant award processes, oversee preparation of required progress reports;
Work closely with:
  • The Marketing and Communications department to effectively communicate the brand identity and Women’s World Banking’s value proposition to donors; 
  • Women’s World Banking Event staff to secure bilateral and multilateral participation and sponsorships, where appropriate;
  • Various Program teams to develop proposal content and donor reports;
  • Provide strategic direction and support to a culturally diverse Women’s World Banking staff and Board, and;
  • Lead, manage and inspire others on the Development team, establish clear goals and metrics for measuring achievement, and seize opportunities for professional growth.
Required Qualifications

Manager position:
  • Bachelor’s degree; 
  • 5+ years of direct fundraising experience with Bilaterals and/or Multilaterals;
  • Secured and managed multiple $1M+ partnerships.
Director position:
  • Bachelor’s degree; 
  • 7+ years of direct fundraising experience with Bilaterals and/or Multilaterals;
  • 2+ years of staff management experience;
  • Secured and managed multiple $2.5M+ partnerships.
Both positions require:
  • Superior writing and verbal skills; 
  • Strategic thinker adept in planning, prioritizing, organizing, and follow through;
  • Ability to work quickly and effectively, and under pressure of tight deadlines;
  • Highly sophisticated interpersonal skills with the ability to build productive external and internal relationships;
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree; 
  • Experience in a sophisticated nonprofit institution or organization with a reputation for quality and excellence;
  • Experience with bilateral and multilateral philanthropy;
  • Success working in an entrepreneurial environment where limited resources are leveraged to produce maximum results;
  • Experience working with SalesForce;
  • Commitment to women’s economic issues;
  • Ability to travel as needed.
