The
purpose of AI’s work with the UN and other intergovernmental
organizations (IGOs) is to ensure that AI’s positions, concerns and
recommendations are effectively communicated to IGO actors and are
reflected in their actions and decisions.
About the role:
You
will lead in the development, implementation and evaluation of Amnesty
International’s (AI) strategies across United Nations (UN) institutions
and other intergovernmental organisations, with a focus on Human Rights
Council related international advocacy strategic priorities. You will
also conceptualise Human Rights Council international advocacy
opportunities and imperatives in the UN system, developing and informing
strategies for advocacy in targeted UN bodies, with a view to improving
the effectiveness of the UN in promoting and protecting human rights. A
key aspect will also be to lead, and deliver strategies and campaigns
to improve the effectiveness of UN institutions in promoting and
protecting human rights.
About you:
You
will have a deep knowledge of human rights priority issues, and a keen
sense of the role of multilaterally-sourced norms and standards,
advocacy action, diplomatic pressure, and UN accountability mechanisms,
in protecting and promoting human rights as well as Human Rights Council
institutions. You will also possess a deep knowledge and understanding
of UN institutional processes and mandates on or related to the Human
Rights Council. You will have extensive experience of IGO advocacy, and
an excellent knowledge and experience of the UN, in particular its human
rights bodies and mechanisms. Knowledge of other IGOs is also required,
including those led by emerging global powers.
