HelpAge International is a global network of not-for-profit organisations with a vision of a world where older people fulfill their potential to lead active, dignified, healthy and secure lives. With over 114 affiliates and 300 partners across more than 50 countries the HelpAge network brings together hundreds of organisations worldwide.

Older people are some of the most vulnerable people in conflicts and disaster contexts. As population ageing transforms developing as well as developed countries, more and more older people are affected by humanitarian crises.  Yet too often, humanitarian responses fail to provide them with the assistance and protection they need and to which they are entitled.

This is an exciting opportunity to join HelpAge International, the only international humanitarian and development organisation dedicated to older people, to ensure that they receive healthcare and nutrition support.  By providing strategic direction, leadership and coordination to HelpAge’s programmes and policy work, you will help to make the international humanitarian system more inclusive of older people and more principled and impartial in its response to the most vulnerable.

The ideal candidate will have a higher degree or postgraduate qualification in health and/or nutrition and knowledge of vulnerabilities and determinants of health with a focus on older people.  You will also have substantial experience of developing and implementing health and nutrition programmes in conflict and disaster settings and of providing technical advice and support to programme teams, including needs assessments, programme design, monitoring and advocacy.  You will be able and willing to travel approximately 100 days a year, sometimes at short notice.

In your covering letter, please:
  • state which of these two locations you would be based in
  • confirm that you already have the right to work in that country
  • state whether your right to work is dependent on your current employment.
Please note, if the above is not explicitly indicated, your application cannot be considered.

Closing date: 4 March 2016
