Job Summary
The Development Associate is a vital member of a fast-paced, high-energy Major Gifts team in New York. The Development Associate provides crucial administrative support in order to ensure outstanding stewardship for donors and prospects and efficient and effective operations for the Major Gifts. The Development Associate supports the major gifts officers in developing and implementing small cultivation events that will deepen existing donors’ commitment to AJWS’s work and will introduce new high-net worth individuals to the organization. This position is non-exempt.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 
  • Support the Major Gifts team with logistics for travel, donor meetings, Leadership Council Meetings etc.
  • Provide donor database support, including queries and reports, data entry, donor research
  • Provide support in creating donor solicitation letters, newsletters, correspondence (merging and proofing)
  • Create and organize constituent lists for events, direct mail and personal appeals to major donors and prospects
  • Support Major Gifts Officers in developing and implementing small cultivation events driven by supporters and donors
  • Work closely with the Major Gifts team to manage event timelines, deadlines, outreach and vendor contracts
  • Coordinate and submit requests for event invitations and promotional materials (including printed collateral and digital media) via the Communications Department
  • Plan, organize and coordinate set-up of event materials, food and beverage catering, and any other supplies or equipment
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) and 2-3 years of related experience required
  • Thorough knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Previous experience with Raiser’s Edge or a similar database preferred
  • Superior written communications skills, time management and organizational skills
  • Comfort learning and using a variety of online technologies and applications
  • Ability to self-start and work independently
  • Ability to handle multiple complex projects
  • Availability to work occasional nights and weekends for special events
  • Strong interest and commitment to global human rights
  • Professional, enthusiastic, flexible attitude and demeanor
  • Previous events-planning experience and NGO/nonprofit-sector experience preferred
