POSITION DESCRIPTION

REPORTS TO: PEDULI Program Deputy Director

PROGRAM BACKGROUND
Program Peduli is a 4 year program funded by DFAT to improve the social inclusion of marginalized Indonesian citizens in economic growth, social welfare programs and decision making arenas. The Asia Foundation is the implementing partner under the Coordinating Ministry of Human Culture and Development (Kemenko PMK). Program Peduli is in its second year of implementation and has increasing information needs to share program achievements with a wide range of stakeholders and design a new communication strategy for the next phase. the level of effort will be full-time as a four months consultancy.

SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The Communication Coordinator plays a supporting role to the Deputy Director, and is responsible for producing high-quality communication of the program's achievements to a wide range of stakeholders. under the direction of the Deputy Director, s/he will play a key role in ensuring the communication plan is implemented and lessons from the program are synthesized and presented to a high-standard of publication and design a communication strategy for the next phase. This role includes daily engagement of the work of a subcontractor as well as supporting the Deputy Director on the communications and deliverables to the donor and government counterpart. the role also includes working with NGO partners to ensure their program achievements and engagement with policy makers are communicated effectively.

The communication Coordinator is a member of the Peduli team, provides support to all program staff in communications.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide support to the Deputy Director and Peduli program staff in overall implementation of the Program’s communications management plan. This includes the day-to-day engagement with the program’s  communication sub-contractor, development of the Program’s website and social media platforms as well as the development and implementation of the “offline” campaigns and events and engage with the media
  • Advice on the development of a communications strategy for the next phase of the program
  • Support the Deputy Director, the Australian and Indonesian governments to produce background briefings, key message development, and identify opportunities for visibility
  • Support the Deputy Director and the program officers to ensure that program knowledge and results are documented, synthesized and effectively disseminated to a range of stakeholders, including the Australian and Indonesian governments and NGO partners, Indonesian and foreign media
  • Any other communications duties as assigned by the Deputy Director
Internal Relationship
  • Regular contact with sub-contractor 
  • Regular contact with the M+E manager and all Peduli team members
  • Regular contact with other communications teams in the Foundation’s Jakarta Office
External Relationship
  • Current NGO partners
  • Indonesian and Australian government agencies
  • Donor and Media
REQUIREMENTS
  • Minimum of 5 years of communications and advocacy role 
  • Demonstrated experience working in a cross-cultural team
  • Degree in social sciences (development studies, anthropology), professional writing, marketing (Masters preferred) 
  • Demonstrated experience working for international organizations or donor agencies (DFAT-funded projects) and demonstrated understanding of quality required
  • Sound knowledge of publishing, design and printing processes and communication technologies
  • Strong inter-personal and communication skills including writing and public speaking
  • Written and verbal fluency in English and Bahasa Indonesia
  • Ability to communicate complex messages in an accessible manner for varied audiences
  • Proven conceptual and analytical skills and ability to think and operate innovatively
  • Good administration and organizational skills and ability to manage variable workload
  • Solid understanding and extensive experience with the civil society movement working on issues related to social inclusion of excluded minorities
  • Experience working with government counterparts and knowledge on information needs
  • Proven experience in building team-building and negotiation
