Girl Rising ENGAGE Internship

Who we are: Girl Rising
is a powerful feature film and a global action campaign for girls'
education. The film spotlights the true stories of extraordinary girls
around the world, striving beyond circumstance and overcoming impossible
odds to reach their dreams. Girl Rising promotes a powerful truth:
educating girls in the developing world can transform families,
communities, and entire countries—and break the cycle of poverty in just
one generation.
The Girl Rising ENGAGE Interns will work closely with the Girl Rising
ENGAGE Team in the NYC office to provide support to Girl Rising's
USAID-funded project in India, Nigeria, and DRC. ENGAGE marries stories
with original content and tools that connect individuals, organizations
and corporations to each other and enable them to draw attention to
their work with girls, use stories to shift perceptions related to girls
on a community level and advance advocacy efforts to create lasting
change.
Who you are: These positions offer the opportunity
to gain great insight into all aspects of Girl Rising, acquire
experience managing campaign outreach and working for on a USAID-funded
project, as well as giving you a great general experience of working as
part of a small, creative, hardworking, and incredibly driven NGO team.
You will work in a fast-paced, energetic environment with passionate and
creative people. Successful candidates will be committed to the Girl
Rising mission and vision to raise awareness about the importance of
educating girls in developing countries and will be comfortable in a "do
whatever it takes" culture. College credit is available.
Day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Fielding requests to the appropriate members of the Girl Rising team, including maintaining ENGAGE inboxes.
- Provide support to the ENGAGE team on all aspects of the project, including research, reporting, and drafting of program materials.
- Identifying grassroots organizations in Girl Rising countries that are aligned with ENGAGE's strategic objectives.
- Identifying non-governmental organizations (NGOs) focused on girls' education that have the biggest regional reach.
- Identifying key media outlets in countries where ENGAGE operates.
- Facilitating incoming and outgoing communications by organizations and individuals interested in partnering.
- Manage and organize key contacts.
- Researching various policy issues.
- Translating program materials between French and English.
- Special projects and administrative duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- An interest in girls/women development work, film, social campaigns and/or film distribution.
- Resourcefulness and creative research skills are crucial.
- Experience with database management.
- Timeliness and organization.
- Attention to detail.
- Reliable work ethic.
- Previous experience in an office setting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Fluency in French is required.
- Positive team player, honest, open, and a sense of humor.
- Available 3+ days per week.
