The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH is the German International Cooperation implementing sustainable development on behalf of the German Government.
GIZ has a record of more than 20 years of involvement in renewable energy (RE) in Indonesia. Starting from rural electrification and mini hydropower, the portfolio expanded to other renewable energies and larger grid connected systems such as biomass and photovoltaic.
GIZ in cooperation with the “Directorate General for New and Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (DG NREEC)“ is presently implementing the project “Promotion of Least Cost Renewables in Indonesia”. The project aims at the use of renewables in areas where they can be applied most cost efficiently.
We are currently looking for an: Advisor – Renewable Energy
Responsibilities
The main responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Facilitate the communication between the project and the partner institution DG NREEC
- Support bio-energy activities in the fields of policies and regulations
- Initiate public and private sector stakeholder cooperation through establishing and liaising with relevant national and international stakeholders
- Steer the implementation of pilot project activities focused on bioenergy project in collaboration with Indonesian agro-industries
- Liaise with private sector and private sector institutions/bodies on RE options for bio-energy
- Support the development capacity building curricula and assist in international training activities
Task
Management and Coordination
- Develop technical Terms of References (ToR) for external consultants;
- Coordinate and supervise external consultants and other service providers in pursuance of stipulated deliverables and deadlines according to ToR;
- Review technical reports and monitor project progress, determine bottlenecks and recommend alternative courses of management action to senior staff;
- Conceptualize, prepare and implement workshops, trainings, study tours and other capacity building events on subjects that are related to LCORE key performance indicators;
- Assess technical and economic feasibility of RE project proposals especially in collaboration with Indonesian agro-industries, project developers and (German) technology providers;
- Contribute to the development, supervision and monitoring of implemented RE pilot projects;
- Identify and quantify scaling up options from pilot projects jointly with stakeholders;
- Maintain and follow up close contacts to the project’s counter partner DG NREEC and other related Indonesian ministries;
- Maintain and follow up close contacts with German and Indonesian RE technology providers, Indonesian industry (especially agro-industries) and RE project developers;
- Develop and maintain information exchange between LCORE project and other international projects and/or working groups related to bioenergy project development;
- Prepare reports and publications regarding progress and results of LCORE project, and contribute to other reports as required by the Principal Advisor;
- Stay abreast of developments in global and Indonesian approaches for RE and climate change mitigation;
- Prepare presentation materials such as brochures and power-point presentations and present project results at seminars and conferences;
- Subject to discussions with the LCORE Principal Advisor. The advisor may be allocated additional tasks and other duties for shorter periods.
Required qualifications, competences and experience
- Science orientated master’s degree in environmental, chemistry, or electrical engineering, engineering and business, or comparable with good understanding of economic and technical aspects of renewable energies;
- Very good communication skills with national stakeholders and experience in working in an international organization;
- Experience in WS preparation, coordination and organization;
- Very good working knowledge of ITC technologies and computer application, (e.g. MS Office);
- Very good knowledge of English and Bahasa Indonesia, including writing capabilities, German would be an asset;
- Good team player;
- Focused and proactive working attitude;
Professional experience
- At least 5 years working experience
- At least 3 years working experience in international organization;
- Familiar with the major issues of renewable energy, especially bio-energy, in Indonesia, ideally with previous exposure to the RE energy-related private sector in Indonesia;
- International publications by the applicant would be an asset;
- Experience in RE energy in the ASEAN context would be an asset;
Other additional competences:
- Availability to travel within Indonesia for short-term project visits on short notice.
