Greenpeace Southeast Asia Job Vacancy: Content Editor - Media and Communications, Hong Kong

Content Editor – Media and Communications

Greenpeace is hiring a media and communications expert for our Asia Pacific hub based in Hong Kong.

About you
You will be a media and communications expert, a journalist or a public relations maverick - someone able to package stories for international audiences, and with a deep understanding of the global news agenda. You have a flair for writing and an eye for powerful images. You know what international news media want and how to deliver it to them.

You think digital first. You have a proven understanding and passion for social media: how to use it, track it, analyse it and create sticky, impactful content. And to deliver all this, you are happy either being hands on or working with colleagues across Asia Pacific to make their stories more global.

You have at least 5 years of professional experience, a significant part of which is across the Asia Pacific region or global. We require native level English skills, and strongly prefer a second language from Asia Pacific.

It’s not essential to have experience in the NGO sector, but you must be able to prove that you share Greenpeace’s values and drive for social change.

About the role
This is a role for someone who is passionate about news, storytelling and engaging audiences to drive social change.

The Content Editor will work at a global level, as part of an international network of communication hubs that maintain a 24/7 operation for Greenpeace International. It’s essential that you are a newshound - someone that can find connections between small local stories and big global trends. You will support Greenpeace offices to amplify their message by identifying news angles and pitching stories (or mentoring others to pitch) to international media for maximum impact.

Using material mostly produced by national offices, the Content Editor will also amplify the reach and impact of Greenpeace’s campaigns by curating and repackaging content for use across Greenpeace International’s online platforms and social media.

You will respond to external and internal inquiries, actively monitor and engage traditional and social media, help manage a global news calendar and respond to crises and organisational threats. You will also keep abreast of the latest trends in your field and share this knowledge with colleagues across the region.

This is an exciting position in a dispersed team with a start-up mentality. You will need to be flexible, organised and prove that you are self driven and ambitious. You must be accustomed to fast paced environments, able to switch between short and long term projects and between driving work yourself and mentoring colleagues from diverse backgrounds.

We strongly prefer you to be ready to be based in Hong Kong, where the small team you would be part of is located. However, location in the Asia Pacific region could be negotiated. You must be prepared to frequently work outside of normal hours and travel, sometimes at short notice.

Salary range for a Hong Kong based position is from Hong Kong dollars $30,047 to $39,424. The actual salary depends on candidate’s relevant work experiences.
