The Opportunity
We are seeking an Executive Director to serve as the Chief Administrative Officer and Program Director for our Foundation.  Reporting to the President of the Foundation, the Executive Director will oversee grant-making programs and explore new grant opportunities, ensuring that Board objectives are translated into specific plans for achievement.  As well, the Executive Director will oversee office administration and community relations, and will serve as a manager and mentor for our staff team (presently consisting of a Senior Officer Program Development, two Program Officers, and an Administrative Coordinator).  Key responsibilities for this role include: program development and implementation, governance facilitation and support, community relations/advocacy, Foundation administration and management.

About the Foundation:
The Pathy Family Foundation is a private family foundation based in Montreal, and celebrating our 10th anniversary this year.  The purpose of our philanthropy is to generate social impact within our own community and in communities around the world.  We support organizations that provide critical aid to meet basic human needs and that empower individuals and communities to generate and sustain positive social change.

The Foundation Board is comprised of two generations of Pathy family members, all of whom share a deep commitment to the Foundation’s objectives.  Family members are highly engaged, acting as sponsors for individual projects, and participating in site visits to grantee locations.

The Ideal Candidate – Key Experience and Competencies 
  • Previous experience in the philanthropic sector related to program oversight and grant-making is desirable, as is experience as a grantee.
  • Experience in a leadership or management role with a non-profit or voluntary organization.
  • Extensive experience in conceptualizing, planning, administering, evaluating, and communicating programs.
  • A proven track record in building partnerships with charitable organizations, ideally including field experience and experience working in Northern communities or outside of Canada.
  • Experience with team leadership and staff management.
  • A high degree of integrity, emotional intelligence and the ability to generate trust and motivate others.
  • Strong English communication skills are expected for this role (oral and written).  French conversation abilities are required, and French written skills will be considered a strong asset.
  • Adaptability, collaboration, a strong work ethic, creativity and high standards of professionalism are essential.
  • Experience in budget management.
  • A University degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • An understanding of and enthusiasm for the Foundation’s mission, philosophy, values, and activities.
