Wildlife Habitat Council Job Vacancy: Manager, Conservation Planning - Michigan

WHC is currently looking for a broadminded self-starter who enjoys collaboration and is passionate about innovative ways to achieve sustainability, to fill a position of Manager of Conservation Planning. The position is part of the Strategy & Planning department, in which team members move the mission forward with motivation and humility.

At WHC, the Manager, Conservation Planning participates primarily in three key functions of the Conservation Strategy & Planning Department:

  • Support WHC members through their involvement in corporate conservation programs and act as a main relationship holder.
  • Define strategies to maintain and increase the private sector’s participation in successful conservation and conservation education activities.
  • Provide conservation and conservation education guidance and technical support to individual facilities and projects.

In this role, the successful applicant is likely to participate in activities such as:

  • Development and implementation of corporate scopes of work, plans, engagement strategies, and other similar approaches;
  • Management of projects, grants, and consulting initiatives with responsibilities for achieving goals, following timelines, and meeting budget;
  • Utilization of trends in sustainability, conservation, remediation, and conservation education to deepen engagement and strengthen outcomes with WHC members;
  • Participation in external committees and groups as a WHC representative;
  • Identification of new opportunities for recruitment, retention, and strategic program development;
  • Recruitment of and participation in site-specific conservation and conservation education services.

This position reports to the Senior Manager, Conservation Strategies.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to learn, develop new capabilities and solutions;
  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in a natural science field, or a related field;
  • Working knowledge of or interest in conservation practices, CSR, and corporate environment(s);
  • 3-5 years of experience in a multi-disciplinary environment intersecting environmental consulting, conservation planning, land management, stewardship activities coordination, community engagement, or sales;
  • Excellent technical and non-technical writing skills;
  • Ability to work independently and virtually/remotely, have an entrepreneurial attitude;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including experience with public speaking;
  • Technology skills including MS Office and ArcGIS. Familiarity with Dynamics CRM is a plus; and
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license.

Work Environment

  • Travel: Regular domestic and occasional international travel is to be expected. This position may include travel up to three times per month; trips can be a single day or multiple days.
  • Physical Demands: This position includes some light physical work. The employee should be able to lift up to 20 lbs. and can expect frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 lbs. The employee may also be standing, sitting, or walking for prolong period s of time, and can expect frequent bending, typing, and kneeling, and will complete frequent visual inspections. The employee is occasionally climbing, crouching, crawling, or stooping.
  • Work Environment: The employee is occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions including the extreme cold (temperatures below 32°F for more than one hour). The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme noise sufficient to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level. The employee might be subject to hazards including moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working on scaffolding in high places, exposure to extreme heat, chemicals, oils, solvents, asbestos, or radiation. Safety briefing and/or training will be provided in such cases.
