Trend Scout and Trainer

to establish development and peace policy education
in an international network in South Asia (Hong Kong)

Background and details on partnership organization
The Asia Pacific Alliance of YMCA's (APAY) is part of the worldwide YMCA alliance and the network of 27 national YMCA associations in Asia and the Pacific. As part of the Interfaith Cooperation Forum (IFC), APAY is committed to sensitizing young people to justice and peace, to further qualifying them and encouraging them to take on social responsibility. There are annual activities such as the School of Peace (SoP) and other peace-facilitating actions/promotions (Peace Summit). So far a total of nine national forums have been set up in the South Asian region, which independently carry out peace programs in their regions.

APAY annually promotes the commitment of 25 alumni (SoP seminar participants) to interreligious dialogue and peace. There are currently up to 100 alumni with needs for exchange and to further develop their atti-tudes and knowledge regarding faith, spirituality, tolerance and intercultural competence. A professional is requested to support the alumni, strengthen the network and the connection both to the alumni and between the alumni (peer-learning).

Job scope/your tasks

You support the ICF as
  • Trend Scout: You will analyze the relevant developments in education programs in peace work across Asia and forward recommendations for action
  • Adviser on the revision of youth programs, e. g. through new conception of trainings or workshops and the mini-SoP, and by developing new event formats for peer learning
You support the alumni by
  • providing professional advice and corporate communication for the alumni programs,
  • e.g. designing the website, newsletter, building databases
  • taking stock and updating the curricula of educational programmes
  • co-organizing educational events
Qualification profile
  • A relevant university or equivalent degree such as social pedagogy, psychology, international / de-velopment cooperation or communication sciences (minimum Bachelor); qualifications in conflict transformation and peacebuilding are a benefit
  • Profound professional experience in e.g. the youth education sector targeting young people such as volunteers and alumni is required, preferably in the development policy, church or international sector
  • Excellent knowledge of English (both written and spoken)
  • Expertise in social media a must
  • Work experience in peace and youth education
  • You have an affinity for networks, strong diplomatic skills and the ability to communicate with people and to share your knowledge
  • A high degree of flexibility, openness and hands-on mentality round off your profile
Citizenship of a European Union Member State is required.

For this exciting challenge, a high willingness to travel within South Asia of approximately 50% is required (e. g. Cambodia, Philippines, Laos, Timor-Leste, Nepal, Bangladesh, Myanmar and Indonesia).

The main/central office of the network is located in Hong Kong; the team is international.
