Project Team Leader: HRNS Muaradua

(Indonesian Nationals Only)

To start as soon as possible, we are seeking an enthusiastic, experienced, well organized and dedicated candidate in a position as Project Team Leader (m/f).

The Project Team Leader will be based in Muaradua, OKU Selatan District, Sumatra Selatan. He/she will be part of HRNS Indonesia country management team, helping to oversee the work of 24 field and administrative staff.

He/she will act as the right hand of the Country Director for programmatic issues and directly lead a highly committed, 16-member-strong operational field team that currently works with about 15,000 farming families and 600 farmer groups in Sumatra Selatan.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist and advise the Country Manager in operational matters and planning activities. This includes supporting the design of strategies, developing conceptual approaches, drafting budgets and financial plans, meeting potential partners and farmer groups.
  • Act as a link between Country Manager and team, identifying issues that may arise in the field, share information and concerns, reporting regularly on the performance of the team.
  • Lead and motivate the team to deliver results through positive supervision and by giving constructive advice, feedback and encouragement during regular field visits and team meetings. Discuss and approve individual work plans of the field staff.
  • Support data collection and reporting efforts for donors, HQ and partners. Ensure data M&E data is used for learning in the program activities.
  • Represent HRNS Indonesia at the Department of Agriculture and other local government counterparts, liaise with commercial actors, NGOs and related stakeholders on local and (inter) national level.
  • Look beyond coffee towards other or alternative options for agricultural production and marketing. Support the team in the development of market linkages from farmer cooperatives to end-buyers.
  • Work towards bio-divers production systems, reducing chemical usages and encouraging re-use of waste materials (plastics, coffee waste, organic waste).
  • An interest in digital applications for agriculture and its application in M&E, training, payment and information systems for farmers.
Required profile:
  • A well experienced flexible team player and creative conceptual thinker who can also assume responsibility and act independently, reliable, diligent, well-organized and focused on achieving results.
Further qualifications:
  • 10 years of experience in management and team leadership of multi-disciplinary teams in an agricultural setting in Indonesia.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, in Indonesian and English.
  • University degree or equivalent, ideally related to agriculture, economics, rural development.
  • Good knowledge of the Indonesian coffee sector (production and marketing). This may include the establishment of cooperatives, increasing gender equality in the sector, integrated farming and integrated pest management, adaptation to climate change, waste management and reduction of chemical use and other challenges and issues faced by coffee farmers. Knowledge of cocoa, palm-oil, rubber, pepper, and other spices is appreciated.
  • An innovative and creative approach that looks beyond the planning towards better potential solutions.
  • An inclusive leadership style that supports staff in their activities and their career development.
  • Willing to live in or near Muaradua and be able to work and travel to isolated rural areas on a regular basis.
  • Experience in fundraising and/or donor and partner relations is an advantage.
