ACT Security Coordinator

Fixed term contract of one year; extendable

Based: London, Waterloo but with travel for up to 2 months per year

Salary: £32,600 – £ 36,616 per annum, including London Allowance

We are looking to recruit a highly committed Security Coordinator to serve as the focal point for coordinating field security capacity support and technical assistance for the ACT Alliance members. You will also provide ‘surge’ capacity in emergency situations and augment existing security management structures as required.

The ACT Alliance is one of the largest faith-based humanitarian and development networks in the world. It has 125 member organisations, over 33,000 staff and volunteers. Priding itself on both its strong local roots and its international reach, ACT Alliance works in 140 countries.
The security coordinator (SC) will serve as the focal point for coordinating field security capacity support for the ACT Alliance forums and members. The primary role of the SC will be to promote good security management practices amongst ACT members. He/she will coordinate the ACT interagency security training programme and help to co-facilitate security training. The SC will also be responsible for supporting ACT forums to roll out existing security guidelines and principles, and design plans and strategies to promote their implementation. In conjunction with the ACT security Working Group (SWG), lead strategy for reducing ACT members’ vulnerability to security risks in the field, with a particular emphasis on Southern partners.

You will have considerable experience of managing security in a variety of contexts and situational environments. You should also have experience of facilitating security training for humanitarian organizations or equivalent. You need to have at least 2 years’ field experience with humanitarian organizations in disaster or conflict-affected developing countries. You will have good knowledge of humanitarian principles and an experienced security analyst with ability to think and act strategically. You will also need to have good awareness of security trends in the humanitarian sector and the challenges faced by aid workers in the field. You will have excellent verbal and written communications skills.
