Head of Project, Turkey/Syria

The post is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial term of 12 months. The office is located in Mardin, Turkey.

This project concerns the establishment and management of a Community Centre for Syrian refugees in Turkey.

Objectives and responsibilities of the position
As Head of Project, you are responsible for coordinating Welthungerhilfe's activities in accordance with the framework specified as regards content, time schedules and finance. This is an UNHCR-financed project that is implemented jointly with national and international partners.

Your most important duties are as follows:
  • Represent Welthungerhilfe and coordinate the project concept and planned project activities with local decision-makers and other aid agencies and development organisations operating in the project area
  • Identify and review new project ideas
  • Ensure orderly financial and material expenses planning
  • Ensure the required flow of information and public transparency of the project work within the country of deployment.
  • Appoint, manage, and provide guidance to local experts
Your qualifications will include:
  • A university degree or polytechnic degree or training in emergency aid, or qualifications that are commensurate with this position
  • Several years of project and management experience in implementing projects of international (aid) organisations, preferably in the region, and ideally experience with using UNHCR guidelines and dealing with Turkish authorities
  • In-depth work experience in a humanitarian context, the management of complex aid measures, as well as very good analytical skills for assessing the humanitarian and security-relevant situation
  • Experience in the implementation of "cash-transfer" components
  • Cooperation skills and ability to work in a team
  • A very good knowledge of both spoken and written English; a knowledge of Turkish and/or Arabic is desirable
