The role of Senior Economist at Vivid Economics is a mid-level role with responsibility for excellent economic and strategic analysis, project delivery and client engagement. Description of the role
  • A successful Senior Economist is able to analyse new and complex economic problems, design and apply advanced methods, and produce high quality end products. A Senior Economist will also be expected to manage some staff and parts of projects, and to begin to develop clients.
  • The candidate will have experience developing investment strategies. Relevant experience includes portfolio management, the use of asset allocation models, asset pricing models, project finance, ESG investing, and macroeconomic analysis to inform investment strategies.
  • The ideal candidate will have experience in applying time series econometrics to inform investment strategies and/or the impact of policies.
  • The geographic focus includes Europe, and a number of countries in Africa, Asia, and the Americas. Some international travel is expected, but should not be extensive unless desired.
  • While the successful candidate is expected to focus on the role outlined above, they will also be required to contribute economic analysis to a range of other projects across the company’s focal areas.
Primary day-to-day duties
  • structuring and applying economic frameworks to analytical problems;
  • developing client solutions, addressing client input, and designing materials that effectively communicate recommendations;
  • keeping updated with knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; participating in professional organisations;
  • participating in company improvements; potentially leading on internal change initiatives;
  • maintaining and developing relationships with existing clients, as well as a broader professional network;
  • developing and seeing through plans; forecasting resources; preparing budgets; and
  • supporting the development of junior staff. 
Reporting and supervisory relationships
A Senior Economist will lead key streams of work for a project, and may also begin to take the primary lead on a project as a whole. As a result, a Senior Economist may supervise up to three people, of Economist and Analyst grade. A Senior Economist will either report to an Engagement Manager, or in some cases directly to a Director or Principal.

Experience and qualifications
  • Candidates must have sufficient experience to demonstrate competency in the duties described. As a guide, four or more years of experience tends to be required to achieve these competencies, with two to four years related to economic analysis. Previous consultancy experience is not necessary but is strongly preferred. Previous experience conducting complex analysis is required.
  • A first class or upper second class degree in economics or a closely related field is required. An MSc/MA or Ph.D. in a relevant field is preferred. Fluency in English is essential. Working knowledge of other languages is an advantage.

Compensation range:
  • Salary of £45,000-£57,000 per year depending on experience, plus annual bonus and an employee share ownership scheme
  • 43 days of paid holiday, including UK bank holidays.
