Global Witness Job Vacancy: Communications Manager - Washington DC, USA

COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER – US
Location(s): Washington DC
Salary range(s): Competitive and commensurate with experience
Term: Full time
Deadline: 31 Dec 2016

YOU ARE INVITED TO HELP COMMUNICATE AND INSTIGATE WITH GLOBAL WITNESS, A DYNAMIC INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATION THAT INVESTIGATES AND CAMPAIGNS TO STOP HUMAN RIGHTS AND ENVIRONMENTAL ABUSES CAUSED BY CORRUPTION AND THE EXPLOITATION OF NATURAL RESOURCES.

As our U.S. Communications Manager, you will lead the development and implementation of an overall U.S. media and communications strategy for Global Witness, with the specific aim of:

  • Generating more media coverage in the U.S. for Global Witness’ hard-hitting, in-depth investigations and advocacy
  • Raising the profile of Global Witness and its impact with key audiences in the U.S., including policy-makers, thought leaders and philanthropic partners.
You will work closely with a team of global campaigners based in the U.S. and London to create a comprehensive U.S.-focused communications plan that amplifies Global Witness’ international efforts. You will have the support of our London-based communications advisers, and will report to the Communications Director based in London, while leading communications efforts in the U.S.

We are looking for a candidate who will be excited about finding ways to introduce Global Witness’ ground-breaking work to new audiences in ways that both inform and inspire action. Attention to detail is a must and our ideal candidate will combine excellent writing and pitching skills with a strong understanding of traditional and digital media.

Candidates should be comfortable navigating strategic communications work that involves significant legal and reputation risks, and will be able to balance grabbing media opportunities with protecting the integrity and security of Global Witness and its investigative work.

The U.S. Communications Manager will help Global Witness conduct hard-hitting investigations and drive advocacy to tackle corruption, environmental and human rights abuse, and ensure natural resources are used sustainably and for the common good.
