SOS Children’s Villages Job Vacancy: Chief Financial Officer - Innsbruck, Austria

SOS Children’s Villages is one of the biggest non-governmental social development organisation worldwide. We help children without parental care and families in difficult living conditions through services in care, education, health and emergency relief, and we advocate for children’s rights. We work in 134 countries and territories, reaching over one million children, young people, families and caregivers each year.

Mission and Position Purpose:
The incumbent will be part of the Management Team, who is the executive body of the Federation and consists of  the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Chief Financial Officer (CFO);

Together they are co-accountable for the overall performance of SOS Children’s Villages and carry individual accountability for their respective portfolios.

The CFO provides strategic financial guidance to the President of the entire SOS Children’s, the International Senate, CEO, COO, the Management Council and major financial stakeholders in the federation.

She/he will take the direct lead of a multicultural team in the area of Finance and Controlling, Shared Treasury Services as well as functional lead of all Finance Executives in our International Offices based throughout our Regions. (Asia, Middle East and North Africa, West and Central Africa, Eastern and Southern Africa, Central Eastern Europe and CIS and Latin America and Caribbean)

Tasks and Responsibilities:
  • Establish and monitor realistic organisational goals, financial sources, maintain financial health and reputation of the federation
  • Lead the global alignment, harmonisation and quality of appropriate financial processes across the federation, and ensure full integration in planning, tools, quality standards and contents
  • Develop financial frames and budgets as well as execute efficient financial management based on a state-of-the-art finance strategy with specific focus on financial health and sustainability
  • Lead the development and reporting against agreed KPIs – for the SOS Children’s Villages central organisation and the regions
  • Ensure optimal financial management (transfers/cash/currency) and financial risk management throughout the organisation, linking program needs and available funds
  • Establish and run a clear corporate business cycle, encompassing strategic planning, budgeting and reporting
  • Meet financial compliance, reporting, and risk management requirements
  • Ensure high quality of financial information (i.e. processes, data quality, reporting) by demonstrating leadership within the organisation
  • Ensure appropriate business policies are developed and implemented
  • Co-represent the global federation externally, i.e. liaise with other international NGOs, UN agencies, governments and representatives of international banks on a high level 
Professional Experience / Qualifications: 
  • A Master in Business Administration, Finance and Economics, Finance Management or related area combined with 15 years of progressive experience in financial management related aspects including risk management, in complex organizational settings with international outlook; relevant experience gained in an NGO context combined with a good understanding of political priorities and strategic direction would be strong asset.
  • Substantial experience in planning and managing large budgets combined with sound experience in designing and implementing financial strategies for large organizations and the ability to taking into account related challenges
  • Proven background and practical experience in leading, driving and implementing organisational change, including project management and quality control of deliverables
  • Excellent analytical skills to have the capacity to identify key points, develop and generate strategic goals and translate them into practical proposals for action
  • Ability to develop a vision for the financial strategy and service provisioning by taking in account needs, resources and constraints
  • Strong leadership and people management skills by creating an atmosphere of mutual trust allowing to guide and motivate managers and staff under her/his supervision
  • Excellent cross cultural skills to support and empower the leadership at international and regional level and to foster institutional capacity building and sustainability
  • Outstanding interpersonal and advocacy skills with the ability to involve and engage stakeholders at all levels within the Federation to adapt to the changing needs
  • Drive and encourage innovation with the ability to think strategically and lead by example by setting high ethical standards
  • Excellent written and oral English language skills; knowledge of German language would be an advantage
  • Candidates with work permit for Austria are preferred
