Plan International Vacancy: Secretariat Manager - Woking, Surrey, United Kingdom

This is a great opportunity for an experienced lawyer/company secretary to help set up and shape a new function. Plan International, in order to support the central decision making bodies, is creating a new Secretariat reporting to the Director of Legal and Governance.

You will be responsible for providing professional governance support to the Members Assembly, International Board, the Global Management Committee and the Executive Team. As this is a new role, you will also be responsible for setting new systems, processes and protocols.


Ideally with a legal or company secretarial qualification, you will have good practical experience in a company or committee secretariat. You should have a good understanding of corporate governance, good governance practice and effective decision making systems and processes. Understanding of the particular issues of governance and decision making within a not-for-profit and/or federated structure would be highly advantageous.


With a high level exposure to senior directors with Plan and the creation of a new team, this would be a great opportunity for the right person to raise their profile and really shape the function.


Knowledge

  • Legal and/or Company Secretarial qualification highly desirable 
  • Practical professional experience in a company or committee secretariat or similar senior role
  • Good understanding of corporate governance, good governance practice and effective decision making systems and processes
  • Understanding of the particular issues of governance and decision making within a non profit and/or federated organization desirable 
  • Experience of drafting, interpreting, advising on and ensuring compliance with constitutions and governing documents 
  • Experience of managing staff members 
  • Experience of working with Boards, Committees and Leadership Bodies and supporting them in planning and managing follow up and supporting and guiding them in the fulfillment of their roles and responsibilities

  • Excellent minute taking, editing and general drafting skills and powers of analysis with strong attention to detail including when under pressure 
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; ability to influence those over whom the post holder has no direct responsibility
  • Seeks and readily identifies ways to increase efficiency and consistency 
  • Ability to think and advise strategically 
  • Confident in any surrounding and good at working at all levels within a management structure
  • Flexible approach, used to working within a complex organisation and dealing with complex situations
  • Effective at working with and supporting Boards and other decision making bodies and governance and decision making processes; able to do this on an international basis.     
  • Strong forward planning, administration and event and/or formal meeting planning skills, including in an international setting

Type of role: 6 month Interim position
 

Reporting to: Director of Legal and Governance/ General Counsel
 

Salary: £40k - £50k per annum
